"That 'Half Pinoy' Kid" speaks out about being a bi-racial child and the struggles he encounters. People need to look past skin color and should feel comfortable with their identity. It doesn't matter what everyone thinks of you, but what you think of yourself.

:D

I'm meztiza, I'm Chinese, Filipino, Norwegian, Spaniard. WHAT NOW SUCKA FOO?! yes I love admitting to the whole entirety of the world that I AM mixed. I love it. I take offense to comments that pertain to multi-racial people. I just shut them up and it feels liberating. :)

This is a great video man, I just commented it on your..tube? I'm part Spanish and Russian but I'm pretty much Filipino. Tagalog/English is the language spoken here at home, so I definitely connect with it more. CHRIS: Oh yeah! The only reason I think I my last name is (SPANISH? IDK? HELP?) is because when the Spanish conquered the Philippines they made many Filipinos change their names, which is why many Filipinos have Spanish surnames... but yeah, my dad is full Filipino. My mom has the Spanish, Russian genes.

Thanks everyone! I didn't realize that my post would be that popular, here and on YouTube. I just think more mixed people need to speak out about their experiences because, yes, we all have had different walks. Nina: "We have the responsiblity to make our own definitions," so true. I just choose to "pick/identify a side." I'm not saying everyone should. :D K1: Sounds like you need to make some VLogs on YouTube. You have a very interesting mix and you should talk about it. Even how Middle Eastern is counted as "Caucasian." Alex: Thanks! I think the boxes are there for a reason, but if they're going to be there, they should at least be more thorough and up to date because times are changing; Their tests aren't. nice post infused. and I agree that those stupid ethnicity boxes are pretty useless the way they are. for one thing, how the hell am I to distinguish myself from 'Pacific Islander' and 'Asian'? K1 and Nina: yeah it's stupid but Middle Easterners are classified "Caucasian" because there are only three categories according to that old European system: Caucasian (everyone from Europe to India), Negroid (Africans), and Mongoloid (East of India). It's a classification created when white people still thought the world was flat.

K1 you have a very unique mix. I'd like to talk to you more if it's possible. And I had no idea that people of Middle Eastern heritage were counted on the census as Caucasian. That's ridiculous!

Yeah I have the same problem with people asking what side I identify with more. And since the Filipino side is more accessible (like your Filipino family), I've been exposed to Filipino culture more. But that in no way means that I neglect my Persian side. Sorry all, but Persian food is still better than Filipino food. :) Anyway, the best tests are the ones that let you check off multiple boxes. If that option isn't available, it's Other. If that's not available...ack! Another thing: why the heck are Middle Easterners suggested to check off the "Caucasian" box? So weird. Yeah Middle Easterners are white (white people came from the middle east), but the cultures, traditions, even looks are distinct from European Caucasians. It stinks cause Middle Easterners are a definite minority in the United States, but here they're counted as white and aren't correctly represented in demographics.

I'm a Mestiza, Half Filipino Half America/New Yorker/Polish/German/Russian Jewish.... My father's family has a deeper history than I've chosen to accept. As a child, like you Infuse, I grew up with my Filipino side of my family being my root culture aside from American culture. I was at points self loathing up until the 2007. I'm 24 now. Because I picked aside. Pretty much rejecting that I am "half-white." Mostly because my father and I had a poor relationship for a good portion of my life a so I rejected that side of my heritage. Even with friends.... I had only Filipino, black or latin friends. And in retrospect I wasn't even excepted fully by either side. I was white amongst ethinic people who didn't really know me, and to white people I was a ghetto latin girl (Whatevers). Being called half honky, Mexican, or even more often now "Wow your exotic."---don't get me started. But as I started to enter "American Society" ie. business and commerce, art ,music and trying to sustain myself as an adult, I realized that being the least bit self loathing or lacking a full awareness of the qualities and the history of your origin was a weakness. To make it out in the world you have to have to have a clear and confident idea of who you are and what you are capable of or life will eat you alive. I love that you defined what you need in order to have pride. But I think as Mixxed Race people we have the responsiblity to make our own definitions of what it is to be Mixxed and Proud and no one who is not mixxed can define our experience. We do not need to "pick aside," we have a responsiblity to be the embodiment of both sides of our heritage. And as you get older you will be able to aquire the tools to forward the progression of what I like to refer to as the "New American Experience." Keep this discussion going I see many great things coming from it. Also I'm working on a photo and multi media project. Interviewing and taking portraits of people of mixxed heritage. Kinda like the Happa Book but not. This is extends to any mix. Send anyone that you know that might want to participate. My email is ninaparksphotography@gmail.com I think one person that illustrates this topic very well is Warren Beatty illustrated it well in the Movie Bulworth if you ever get time read the dialouge or watch the movie.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118798/quotes
