Siakol

Never heard of Siakol until I met my boyfriend two years ago.  One of the band members is his cousin.

I noticed there isn't a lot of mention about artists and musicians in the Philippines past and present among Filipino-Americans.  For example some music everybody who grew up on the streets know (if you don't already know, you have got to know) Parokya ni Edgar, Eraserheads, Rivermaya (old Rivermaya when Bamboo was still there), and Bamboo....  I love Love LOVE them.  I know a lot of Filipinos were torn up when musician Francis Magalona passed away, very young, in 2009 - he was known as the "King of Pinoy Rap" in the Philippines.  I hope everyone knows or get to know them!

I understand what you mean. I once tried to play modern OPM hits at an all Filipino party and not even half way through, someone changes it to US top 40.

Here's a playlist I always listen to when I'm in the mood for good OPM: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=44E6292D4E2BD665

It has a good mix of light summery pop music like Yeng Constantino, the slow traditional-opm-esque like Toni Gonzaga, and even some pinoy rock like Slapshock and Rico Blanco. Enjoy!
