Last Thursday, April 15th, MTV and DoSomething.org coordinated an All Star Champions for Charity episode of America’s Best Dance Crew.  The past five ABDC Champions all returned to help bring light to 5 charities and their social activists, who work to outreach and promote positivity and education in each of their respective communities.  Each charity received $10,000 as a donation from each of the 5 seasons’ winning crews.

DoSomething.org is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the United States.  The organization helps to inspire and empower youth to be proactive around in their communities.  The Champions for Charity episode has provided a platform for these social activists to expand their projects through financial support and national exposure.

Many other past ABDC alumni were present in the audience bringing support and energy throughout the studio.  Actor Quinton Aaron from the movie “The Blind Side” came out to meet the dance crews as well as the charity representatives.

The show started off with an amazing collaboration from the Jabbawockeez, Super Cr3w, Quest Crew, We Are Heroes, and the newly crowned Poreotix.  The studio was filled with adrenaline and excitement, ready for what the five individual crews were ready to leave on their home stage.

PoreotixPoreotix kicked it off with an “Alvin and the Chipmunks” theme.  As usual, Poreotix layered on the humor on top of their trademark intricate and sharp choreography.  The organization, Everybody Dance Now! and their representative, Jackie Rotman, received a check to help continue to provide free dance classes for at-risk youth in the community.

Season 4 champions, We Are HeroesWe Are Heroes, performed a female super heroine action figure theme.  Popping out of life sized action figure boxes, the all female champs shared their strength and acrobatics on stage.  Sarah Cronk from the Sparkle Effect, received a check to help create cheerleading programs for children with special needs.

Next up were Season 3 favorites, Quest CrewQuest Crew.  No stage props, no gimmicks.  Quest Crew’s charisma left the audience nostalgic for more of this crew.  Humor, stunts, tricks, everything we remember and love about Quest Crew were all mixed into the routine.  The audience agreed; Quest Crew stole the show. Jordan Coleman, a young educational filmmaker of the Say It Loud! Film, received a check.

Season 2 winner Super Cr3wSuper Cr3wperformed an alley theme.  The street alley theme and the very athletic stunts really showcased the strength of Super Cr3w and reminded us of why they beat all comers in Season 2.  However, a surprise hit the stage midset and stole the hearts of all who were watching.  8-year-old Jalen Testerman, pops up out of nowhere showcasing his amazing bboy moves and charisma.  Marvelyn Brown of Marvelous Connections, an organization that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness, received a check.

ABDC Season 1 champions, the Jabbawockeez, topped off the show.  An elevated giant trademark Jabbawockeez mask served as the centerpiece of the stage.  The crew emerged from behind the mask performing a clean, elegant, musicality filled Jabbawockeez-esque routine.  It left the audience wanting more and reminding everyone of why they are the original ABDC champions and why they’re set to perform at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas from May 7-26th. Josh Sundquist, creator of amputee social networking site LessThanFour.org, received the last check.

Without a doubt, Season 5 ended on a high note! Congratulations to all the crews, who for the past 5 seasons have served to inspire many other dancers and performers to continue in their craft.

Best of luck to all the crews in all their future endeavors!
