Saturday, May 1st -- On International Workers' Day, AF3IRM (Association of Filipinas, Feminists Fighting Imperialism, Re-feudalization, and Marginalization, (formerly known as GABRIELA Network/GABNet) Los Angeles will take to the streets to call for comprehensive immigration reform and an end to US-led imperialism, whose exploitative policies and practices have forced over one billion people worldwide out of their home countries to find work abroad.
In Los Angeles, an epicenter of the immigrant rights struggle, AF3IRM/GABNet will march with organizations such as the ANSWER Coalition and Alliance for Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines (AJLPP), for the full legalization of all the undocumented workers in the U.S. and a stop to the racist ICE raids terrorizing immigrants. AF3IRM/GABNet Los Angeles specifically condemns the recently-passed Senate Bill 1070 in Arizona, which has further empowered police officers to be able to stop and interrogate every individual regarding citizenship, legalizing racial profiling.
AF3IRM/GABNet Los Angeles also stands steadfast in its fight against imperialism and commitment to end the exploitation of women across the globe. AF3IRM/GABNet calls on President Obama, federal and state governments, and corporate entities to stop imperialist policies that destroy the self-sufficiency of women, force women into low wage labor, and break up families when one member must leave for work abroad.
On this May Day, AF3IRM/GABNet Los Angeles calls on all freedom-loving peoples to join in the historic march at a time of global economic crisis, racist immigrant policies, widespread worker lay-offs, imperialist wars, and the proliferation of the trade of women as a result of extreme poverty.
