April is National Poetry Month!
Carlos Bulosan. Tupac. Pablo Neruda. Barbara Jane Reyes.
Poets. Word connoisseurs. All of these people are writers who have the ability to take words and move hearts to feel loved, accepted, angry, and all together creative. April is the official National Poetry Month and to celebrate, BakitWhy.com will be featuring poems on our blog through an exciting reader contest.
Poetry has long been an art form that has not only speared revolutions but also is a form of expression that has empowered generations of people of color to voice love, pain, tragedy and hope. From the written word to the spoken word, many people have felt connected to each other and to the rest of the world through the communal act of sharing expression.
This month, challenge yourself to live poetry. Try to read different types of poems; listen to it, write, or watch it. There are many community events that are hosting poetry readings and other activities that support creativity. Poetry has come a long way from poems about whales and random flowers. Be inspired and find what poetry can do for you!
To end, I leave you with a hay(na)ku, a 21st century poem form created by Eileen Tabios, dubbing it as the Pilipino Haiku.
Winning.
Tigers blood.
The new WTF.
