Singer, songwriter, and music producer Bruno Mars (real name Peter Hernandez) is quickly becoming a household name in today's music industry. He has co-wrote and been featured in two of the top songs on the Billboard charts, "Nothin' On You" by B.O.B. and "Billionaire" by Travis McCoy, released a 4-track EP called "It's Better If You Don't Understand", and most recently performed at MYX Mash 2010.

BakitWhy.com takes a closer look at his background and the work that has led him to his current success.

Born and raised in Hawaii to parents of Pilipino and Puerto Rican descent, Bruno was exposed to music genres such as rock, reggae, hip-hop, and R&B at a very young age. Being a performer was also a talent that he shared early - he was featured in a local magazine as "Little Elvis" at age 4. After he graduated high school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career.

Before becoming the budding performer that people are seeing today, he produced music for a lot of well-known artists. Most notably, he co-wrote one of Flo-Rida's biggest hits, "Right Round". He also produced music for Brandy, Adam Levine, and Sean Kingston, among others.

Variety is a main characteristic in the music that he creates, and it is no surprise that how he was raised has a direct influence in that. We certainly hope that we will hear more from Bruno Mars in the future!

i've just recently heard about bruno mars (recently as in maybe last week? two weeks ago? slow on the uptake i am sometimes, i know). but i love reading how these people, these still somewhat-unknowns have produced and worked with such artists in today's mainstream and worked on songs that some of us can't help but sing along to (just yesterday i was singing along to "nothin' on you" while cruising the currently hot streets of chicago). it always is awesome to hear about a filipino getting closer to their dream, even inch by inch. i'm gonna keep my eye on this guy from now on!
