Los Angeles – In time for LA Pride, Barangay LA will be celebrating 20 years of service to the LGBT Filipino and Filipino American community on Thursday, June 10 at Salakot Sizzle & Grill in Historic Filipinotown. While celebrating Barangay’s anniversary, three outstanding honorees will be recognized for their tireless efforts and contributions in promoting LGBT Filipino and Filipino American awareness and visibility in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Honorees include transgender activist and beauty queen Karina Samala, fundraising guru and co-founder of Barangay LA, Peter Corpus and the only HIV/AIDS awareness organization serving the Asian Pacific Islander community in Los Angeles, Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team.
“Together with the volunteers, supporters and members, we promulgate the advancement of Barangay Los Angeles to reach another 20 years. Barangay has given GLBT Filipinos a strong presence in the community and thereby has given a voice to the thousands of GLBT Filipinos in Los Angeles,” shares Francis Aquino, current Barangay LA President.
Event features include a special performance by Ferdinand de Leon, Barangay Idol 2009 winner, a buffet of everyone’s favorite Filipino dishes, complementary wine and cupcakes, red carpet entrance complete with paparazzi and much more! Turning 20 never sounded more sarap!
