The 3rd Annual Bowl4GK took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on Martin Luther King Weekend with participants hailing from Northern and Southern California Pilipino College Organizations. This youth gathering takes place every year not only to run a friendly bowling competition and to provide a social networking forum, but it most importantly promotes the Gawad Kalinga movement.
The Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation empowers the poorest of the poor in the Philippines through education, self-reliance programs, provision of land, homes, and food. GK has gained a strong following amongst the Pilipino American youth.
Through events like this many students have willingly engaged themselves in the GK spirit of giving and service. In the future, some have even expressed intentions to travel to the Philippines and work to build communities of homes that help to improve and enrich the lives of many.
In the words of Gia Pangilinan: "Bowl 4 GK works as a good stepping stone in getting participants to simply be aware of the movement known as GK; once they are aware of what's happening and what they can do, then they can make the decision to actively help Gawad Kalinga or simply support Gawad Kalinga through our bowling events."
