COMMENTARY: Adam Carolla tries Comedy, instead comes off Stupid - maybe that's where the Joke rests?

A sharp commentary on Adam Carolla's statement about Pacquiao

Hey, Adam Carolla, all the bios I read on you refer to you as a comedian.

Really?  Seriously?

Because I'm trying to figure out how funny you actually are.  Don't accuse me of being sensitive, but if you're going to do racial humor, at least make an effort to be comical. Mistaking Thailand for the Philippines and then calling it the "same difference" isn't funny.  You're too dumb for me to simply dismiss you as ignorant.  Maybe there's humor in your idiocy?  If that's the case, maybe you really are funny?

Wait, here's a funny thought: Manny Pacquiao should forget about fighting Mayweather, so he can step inside a ring with you.  Now, that would crack me up.  On second thought, you're not worth it to Pacquiao, or the rest of his supporters from Thailand.  But I can share a chuckle with a few million people about what it would be like, right?  Maybe your network should shut you up instead.  Wait, no, that might deny me the chance to laugh at your curious attempts at humor.  You made some very eloquent points, such as:

"...he's from the Philippines and because he's, ya know, praying to chicken bones and stuff like that, everyone's kinda like, 'uhh, well, you gotta respect him for his belief system' no you don't, he's a [expletive] idiot."

"Here's how you know your country doesn't have a lot going for it: when everything is about Manny Pacquiao."

"Get a [expletive] life as a country."

"All you [expletive] got is this illiterate guy who won't give up blood who happens to smash other guys in the head better than other people?"

"They got this and sex tours.  That's all they have over there.  Get your [expletive] together, Philippines.  Jesus Christ."

"It pisses me off when other countries just do that whole thing.  There's one guy, he's 5 foot 6, he's 147 pounds, and he's good at punching other guys in the head, and you're gonna build your entire country around this guy?"

Before I was a filmmaker, I was a teacher.  I used to get annoyed when adults accused kids of saying dumb things. They don't. Sometimes they say ignorant things. You see, ignorance is a lack of knowledge.  You, however, are just plain dumb. In your act of dumbness, I guess there's humor.  You're starting to win me over, Adam.  I find really stupid people to be a wealth of material for scripts and entertainment.  And you certainly are stupid.  Maybe that makes me an elitist to look down on you.  But at least I'm not you, right?

I'm gonna give you credit for one truly funny thing, though -- on the topic of the Philippines (not Thailand), you mentioned that the country has "nothing going" aside from Pacquiao.  Yes, Adam, there's nothing to do in the Philippines.  The food sucks, the islands are ugly, and there aren't centuries of different cultural influences that give the Philippines its unique history.  Give that man an "LOL."

So I guess you are a funny guy, afterall.  You're also an insensitive and stupid idiot. But that's beside the point.  Thanks for the laughs.  We're not laughing with you, just at you.

Idiot.

Not only is he ignorant, nasty, and not funny, this sleazeball is despicable for knowingly exploiting someone more important than him for the purpose of becoming relevant. He's not, never was, and doesn't deserve our attention. Really he's so pathetic that his listeners should be embarrassed. But then again, they sound like they have no shame either.

However, on the matter of idolatry and self-esteem, it reminded me of a couple of recent articles that made me think:

comedy that targets towards racial and ethnic humor is definitely a fine line to tread. there's folks that do get it like russell peters, paul mooney, and dave chappelle to name a few; on the large part there's a ton of "comedians" that do not. the real comedians work a lot at their craft utilizing real experiences, encounters, and knowledge to find actual humor and absurdities that, because they are based on reality, resonate with both the target audience, and if they're really good, general audiences as well. even if fictional accounts are used, at least there will be some truth that roots the absurd bringing us to believe: hey it's possible.

what we have over here are slings of insult based not in truth, but what the speaker wants to believe. he speaks of sex tours in asia but who are they created for? it's a despicable industry created to fuel the desires of westerners for the "exotic." how does one tell another country to get their "shit together" when we here in america don't have it together either? maybe he should get his shit together cause it seems like he's just making these comments to get himself in the news and make himself relevant.

the typical response from jerk offs that agree with stupid comments like these are: hey you're being too sensitive, blah blah blah. but there are real consequences to when dehumanizing media becomes mainstream. caricatures like Jim Crow, which is where we get the term Jim Crow law, were used to justify racial inequality and hatred against Blacks. Also, Nazi media consistently painted the Jews as conniving "others" in the same fashion that Carolla paints Pilipina/os as chicken bone mystics, as if there's anything wrong with that in the first place.

sure he's free to say what he wants, but i'm just as free to call him out as an idiot, no talent, hack. making stupid comments definitely ensures he'll never be a legend like carlin and pryor.

Obviously he has no real knowledge of Philippine history, so he pulls up some primitive and immoral practices that make our culture seem like scum of the Earth with nothing better to do than sit in front of our televisions to watch one man beat the crap out of another one. And then praise him.

Opinions should be backed up with facts and prior knowledge. His ethnocentric words about America toward the Philippines, or any other culture, is even a shame to Americans; no way is racism American.

thanks =D though i would just be careful of devaluing other non traditional belief systems as "primitive" or "immoral," of course unless they call for wanton slaughter. it's easy to dismiss practices we don't partake in as such; but maybe some 100,000 years down the road archeologists will find the remains of churches, mosques, temples or what not and refer to our current beliefs as silly.

while pacquiao may not practice such a religion, what carolla was saying is that we shouldn't have to respect his religious or spiritual beliefs, to me what he said was bullshit. i think Common said it best: "who am i or they to say to whom you're praying to ain't right?" whether you're atheist or believe in a creator, as people all we can do is speculate as to the nature of reality.

He obviously didn't learn his lessons the first several times around.

These statements are most certainly "low blows" and are without a doubt way out of line!

And apparently he didn't learn his lesson from before.

Looking at the comments of the youtube clip included in the article this moron also insulted Hawaii, its native population, and along with the Asian culture back in January 2006. The next month he issued an apology:

"We do a show here that is a little irreverent, and, sometimes, we cross the line, and we definitely crossed it this time. It was not meant to offend, it did, and, for that, we sincerely apologize to the good people of the Asian community."

Pfft. Whatever.
