With the coordination of the recently-chartered Filipino American Chamber of Commerce – Southbay Los Angeles Area (FACC-SLAA), Philippine Consul General Mary Jo Aragon toured the California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) Archives and Special Collections in Carson, CA with the intent of building up the University Library’s Filipiniana Collection.
The tour, led by CSUDH Director of Archives and Special Collections Gregory Williams, was also attended by Vice Consul Charmaine Chua, FACC-SLAA Interim President Evelyn Andamo (Carson Adult Day Care Center), FACC-SLAA Interim Recording Secretary Frederick Alain Docdocil (BakitWhy.com), Leticia Tan (Carson Regional Library), Linda Nietes (Philippine Expressions Book Shop), Fe Koons, and Delfin Villanueva, among others.
CSU Dominguez Hills serves as the home of the Archives of the California State University System. Jump started by a donation of over 100 books about the Philippine involvement in World War II by Mr. Villanueva, the University is looking to increase their collection of historical materials pertaining to the Philippines and to Filipino-Americans. As such, they are encouraging the community to donate any pertinent books, photos, letters, business records, and any other historical pieces they might have at their disposal. The CSUDH Archives and Special Collections will then ensure that these gathered materials are properly organized, cataloged accurately with the appropriate finding guide, and ultimately displayed for the community to access and enjoy.
