ADDITIONAL INFO:
Proceeds from “the EXPO” will help fund Culture Shock LA’s low and no-cost urban dance education programs. Hosted in seventeen school and community center sites during the past year, these workshops teach students the foundation of urban dance while educating them on the four elements of Hip-Hop, its cultural relevance, and its relation to other art forms. Through community outreach efforts, dance education programs, and professional performances, Culture Shock LA preserves the history of the Hip-Hop culture while focusing on the mission: “We are a troupe of individuals who, through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity, and respect for all people.”

ABOUT CULTURE SHOCK LOS ANGELES DANCE TROUPE:
Based in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, Culture Shock was founded in 1993 as a diverse collective of dancers brought together to exchange ideas and share their passion for the emerging area of urban dance. The organization is now an international, nonprofit group with dance companies based in cities throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Culture Shock uses urban dance forms to involve diverse and traditionally underserved communities in the arts, and works to showcase these forms with the same professional artistry and respect given to other styles of dance.

In recent years, Culture Shock Los Angeles has established a number of quality youth dance education programs serving sites throughout the diverse areas of Los Angeles County. Through community outreach efforts, dance education programs, and professional performances, the organization preserves the history of the Hip-Hop culture while focusing on the mission: “We are a troupe of individuals who, through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity, and respect for all people.”
