The Filipino American Artists Network blog/directory addresses the need for a global art organization that focuses on Pilipino-American artists while encompassing all art forms. Maybe that is one of the reasons why there is not much visibility among Pil-Am artists. The goal of this website is to encourage dialogue about this deficit and showcase the diverse talents Pil-Am artists to the world, while dispelling any negative myths within the Pilipino community.
Currently, there are local art organizations specialize in their own disciplines and print/web based media groups that deliver news about the Pil-am community in a very broad sense. Wouldn't it be more powerful if we bring these groups and individuals together?
Filamartists.com provides a space where artists/contributors can post about other artists, as well as their own events. Although it may sound really ambitious to have many Pil-Am artists in one directory/website, but it will encourage networking and collaboration among artists from different disciplines.
The wonderful thing about the Pilipino community is that we have this "bayanihan spirit" (cooperation) which collaboratively channels energy towards assisting Pil-Am artists to have more voice, more presence in the public, and more ongoing recognition for the artist's works. If all artists help and band together, it's much more powerful than going it alone.

By the way, the Pil-Am rock/alternative band "Lost Poetics" who needs our help. MTV is hosting a contest "I Want My Music on MTV II. " MTV will pick the band with the most votes to have their music launched on MTV Channel. They made it to #12 out of 20! But right now, they're down to #14.
