Asian American artists gathered together to perform at "generatioNext!," a benefit concert for Japan's relief efforts since the earthquake and tsunami calamities. Hundreds of people attended this evening event at the Ford Amphitheatre on Sunday, Aug. 7.
The event was a "concept I came up with last year," said Rex Sampaga, co-producer and director, "Basically our mission at PAE Live! is to promote and market Asian and Asian American artists in the mainstream [media]. GeneratioNext! showcases the next generation of Asian songwriters, singers, musicians, and the whole caboodle."
The team hopes to brand this event into series, Sampaga said. Other producers include Ted Benito and Dave Watanabe.
"I have always tried to use my relations with celebrities to bring about knowledge and assistance whenever I can," Benito said. "It's important that these artists have the capacity to work for important causes without batting an eye."
Artists include Dawen, J-Ricz, Andrew Garcia, afterschoolspecial, The Fung Brothers, Innerlude, Mahi Crabbe, Paul Dateh, AJ Rafael, and more.
As PAE Live! did with Martin Nievera's concert for ABS-CBN Foundation's "Sagip Kapamilya Sa Japan," the team will give raised funds from generatioNext! to the ABS-CBN Foundation International, who in turn will forward them to the Japan Red Cross.
"We are hoping to add the monies ABS-CBN Foundation International has given Japan, not only for general rebuilding efforts, but also to assist some 100,000 Pilipinos who live and work in Japan," Benito stated. "Conditions in Japan, particularly in the northeastern most devastated places, are still meager: no drinking water, no sustainable food, no infrastructure and in some places, lack of adequate medicine."
