Tim LincecumTim LincecumAfter a quiet couple of weeks, many of our Pilipino athletes have garnered nationwide attention again. Superstars such as and Manny Pacquiao have been trending topics in the sports world, speaking about their recent performance and what is next for them. The entire world is also witnessing the NBA playoffs as we are deep into the conference semi-final series. Here's a quick recap of the events of the past week.

-After a largely one-sided victory over Shane Mosley, the inevitable topic of facing Manny Pacquiao was brought to the attention of Floyd Mayweather Jr. 'Money' stood strong with his stance of drug testing and declared he was willing to fight Manny only if he agreed to his testing. After Mosley went through the entire process with no complaints, Mayweather's argument had a stronger foundation. Pacquiao must have felt the same way because a couple days after the fight Pacquiao mildly entertained the idea of giving in and going through the Olympic style of blood testing, re-opening the possibility of the fight that everyone wants to see.

-After his come from behind victory in UFC 112 over 'The Ultimate Fighter' winner Kendall Grove and winning 'Fight of the Night' honors, Mark 'the Filipino War Machine' Munoz gained a huge amount of respect from the MMA community and solidified the fact that he is a legitimate contender in his new weight division. The 'Filipino Sports Examiner' was able to get an exclusive interview with Munoz and talk about various topics which included attempting to bring the UFC to the Philippines.

-Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants seemed to have continued from where he left off last season in terms of his award winning performance. 'The Freak' currently has a perfect 4-0 record and would be 6-0 if not for the Giants bullpen blowing late inning leads on 2 occasions. In his most recent outing against the Florida Marlins, 'The Franchise' struck out 11 en route to a no decision, and is currently the NL leader in strikeouts.

-The NBA semifinals haven't been as exciting as the quarterfinals as 3 of the 4 top teams as lived up to their expectations and have handily defeated their foes, and now currently hold 2-0 series leads over their opponents. The Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Orlando Magic have won all their semifinal games convincingly and are virtually guaranteed spots in the conference finals. The only question mark so far is the series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics as the series is tied 1-1. The #1 topic that concerns the sports nation is the condition of LeBron James' elbow. Without him at 100%, the Cavs have left a window for the Celts to upset the #1 team in the league, which at this point is a legitimate possibility. The next two games will decide who will gain momentum for the all important game 5 where a winner could be found or be a front runner to move on the Eastern conference finals.
