Winter Olympics 2010Winter Olympics 2010Here are some quick BBM's about a few Pilipino and Pilipino-American athletes being noted in the mainstream media the past week.

-J.R. Celski, fresh off a bronze medal performance a few days earlier in the 1500m Short Track Speed Skating event, has qualified for the 1000m quarterfinals on 2/20.

-Amanda Evora, one of the female representatives for the USA Pairs’ Figure Skating team, achieved personal bests in both the short and free programs on her way to a top 10 finish in the Olympics.

-Nonito Donaire successfully defended his title and headlined a Pinoy Power 3/Latin Fury 13 that featured Latin boxers versus Pilipino pugilists. The Philippines took the card 3 matches to 2.

-Tim Lincecum, pitcher for the San Francisco Giants and fresh off a Cy Young award as the top pitcher in the league, set a league record with the 2 year, $23 million deal that he agreed to with the Giants on 2/13.

-Eden Roa Serina, lone representative for the Philippines in the World Cup Circuit, narrowly missed out on representing the Philippines in the Vancouver games.

Also in full effect right now is the 2nd half of the NBA season. I figured many Pil-Ams follow the NBA religiously, so putting up a team's schedule wouldn't hurt one bit. I'll cover 5 teams initially, 3 from CA, 1 from IL, and 1 from FL to cover the East and MY favorite team, the Miami Heat. However, it will change weekly depending on if, and when, any teams are requested.

Los Angeles Lakers – 2/23 @ MEM, 2/24 @ DAL
Los Angeles Clippers – 2/20 vs. SAC, 2/22 vs. CHA, 2/24 vs. DET
Golden State Warriors – 2/19 vs. UTA, 2/21 vs. ATL, 2/23 vs. PHI, 2/25 vs. DEN
Chicago Bulls – 2/19 @ MIN, 2/20 vs. PHI, 2/22 @ WAS, 2/24 vs. IND
Miami Heat – 2/19 @ MEM, 2/20 @ DAL, 2/23 vs. MIN

Other than that, I want to know what you are looking for; is there anything you would like for me to put up weekly? random Pil-Am athlete fact? weekly features on different athletes?

I am open to any and all suggestions, as I want to make this weekly piece as enjoyable for you to read as it is for me to write. Until next week, catch the Olympic fever and support the USA and the Pil-Am athletes in the Olympics! =)
