Kabataang maka-Bayan (KmB), Pro-people Youth, held Voices of Pilipino American History at FACLA this past Sunday. The event featured guest speakers such as Patricio Ginelsa and Johnny Itliong.
Ginelsa, Associate Producer of The Debut as well as writer & director of LUMPIA, spoke about Pilipino representation in mainstream Hollywood. He showcased a collection of music videos and projects that sighted prominent artist in the FilAm community. Itliong, son of Larry Itliong, spoke about his father’s work as a historical labor organizer. Mr. Itliong also described his father’s integral contributions, along with the Manong’s contributions, which lead to the success of the Delano Grape Strike. He also spoke about Larry Itliong’s role as a co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW) organization.
DJ Magic Marker, Tripz & DJ Bo Bo, The Black Noise, and The Fighting Cocks provided musical entertainment and rocked the stage. Attendees were free to peruse the venue that showcased artwork by Manila Ryce, Stuter, Alfie Numeric,Loralei Bingamon, and Anthony Thomas.
