Lori Gopiao sends her message and prayers to the millions of Pilipinos in the United States and around the world of her need for a bone marrow donor that could save her life. Lori has been diagnosed with leukemia, and the only gift she wishes this Christmas is to be 100% healthy for her two children. She has devoted her life being an ICU nurse, enduring 12 hour shifts of giving a healing hand to those who need it, and is now asking for that same healing hand from her fellow kababayans around the United States.
Pilipinos are poorly represented in the National Bone Marrow Registry with having only a few willing Pilipino bone marrow donors. This is a very unfortunate fact especially since we are one of the largest minorities living in the United States. One theory is that many Pilipinos do not know how simple it is to register to be a donor. Another theory is some would think it’s a long and painful process - but it’s not. Donating bone marrow, one nurse says, 'is as simple as donating blood at your local Red Cross."
Registering and donating bone marrow today can save many sick Pilipinos tomorrow. Lori believes that even if she doesn’t get a donor for herself, her story would help spread awareness of how donating bone marrow can give another person a second chance to live.
Please support Ms. Lori Gopiao's (and many other Pilipinos) fight against Leukemia by registering at www.asianmarrow.org/
