Bloomginton, IN - The heart of Indiana will be the site of one of the largest gatherings of Pilipino-American college students as the Filipino Student Association of Indiana University hosts the MAFA Conference for the first time.
MAFA, formally known as the Midwest Association of Filipino Americans, is the name of both the annual conference as well as the governing body that represents the Pil-Am Collegiate organizations in the Midwest. In the conference’s fifteenth year, this will not be the first time MAFA has held in Indiana, having been held at Purdue University back in 2004.
MAFA is scheduled to take place on February 26-28, 2010 on the IU campus located in Bloomington, Indiana. The theme for this year’s event is, “Children of the Sun: Different Stories United by the 8-Point Sun”, which was inspired by the single from New York/New Jersey hip-hop group Deep Foundation. The group will headline the entertainment portion of the conference, more commonly known as the variety show. The Keynote Speaker will be Aubrey Aquino, a TV personality and host of her own online show entitled “On the Flipside”.
This time around, the workshops will focus on various topics from networking and entrepreneurship to music of the Philippines. Furthermore, they will have a hip-hop choreography class in which delegates will learn a routine taught by San Diego based dancer, Phillip Geniza.
As for the entertainment, the committee has brought in world-class talent such as: Krystle Cruz, Noel Kunz, Manny Garcia, 312, JR Aquino, and much more!
Pilipino-American based/owned clothing labels PNOY Apparel from San Diego, as well as Chicago’s very own EthnikRoots and Potential Villain will be on hand showcasing some of their much-anticipated pieces from their spring collection.
