What is being called “I Know What You Did Last Summer” meets “Desperate Housewives” comes the brand new television show, “Pretty Little Liars,” on ABC Family Channel. Written & created by Marlene King based on the original teen novel series written by Sara Shepard , this television series recently premiered on Tuesday, June 8th and stars two Pilipino American actresses - veteran actress Nia Peeples, and newcomer Shay Mitchell.
Just as Desperate Housewives began with a mysterious housewife suicide in the neighborhood of Wisteria Lane, Pretty Little Liars begins with the disappearance of erstwhile student clique leader, Allison, in the perfect little town called Rosewood. Her body is discovered a year later, but after her funeral, her clique of friends receive ongoing, menacing texts from the mysterious “A” threatening to expose all of the secrets they keep from each other. Thea show is being appropriately called “Desperate Housewives” for teenagers. 
Shay Mitchell is a native of Toronto, Canada, and is of Pilipino, Irish and Scottish descent. She plays the character Emily Fields, who is struggling with her sexual identity. Although Emily has a boyfriend, she finds herself attracted to new neighbor, Maya (played by Bianca Lawson). The two teenagers eventually kiss in a photobooth (Episode 3, To Kill a Mocking Bird) and that particular plotline of the story is left to the imagination from there.
Nia Peeples is an actress and singer, best known for her role as Nicole Chapman in Fame, and as Karen Taylor Winters in the soap opera Young and the Restless. She is of Pilipino, German and Spanish descent. She plays Shay Mitchell’s mother, Mrs. Fields. Her daughter tries to confide to her, saying, “I think there is something wrong with me” in reference to her sexuality in the Pilot episode but she mistakes this for her struggle in dealing with the discovery of her friend, Allison’s body.
Tune in every Tuesday 5 PM Pacific Time/ 8 PM Eastern Time on the ABC Family Channel to watch Shay Mitchell and Nia Peeples on "Pretty Little Liars."
