Artists are born with their passion to create. To dance is to live a passionate life. To dance is to transcend that passion to move with your heart, body and soul. In a world where instant fame is connected to competitive dancing on reality shows, it is great to know other dancers who have catapult themselves into the limelight. Meet Francisco Gella, multi-awarded and renowned dance choreographer and educator.
Francisco Gella graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Dance. His career as a successful choreographer and dance educator proves that he can combine both the commercial and artistic aspect of dance. And because of this, the most prestigious dance companies all over America have sought him out. He has been a company member of the Philadelphia Dance Company, Repertory Dance Theatre of Salt Lake City, Spectrum Dance Theater of Seattle, The Chamber Dance Company, Leaving / Ground Dance, California Ballet and Ballet Pacifica.
His choreographic acclaim includes two highly renowned duets performed at the Evening with the Stars and the Gala programs at the Laguna Dance Festival directed by Jodie Gates. His work “Configured Echoes” garnered the Best Choreography Award for the Pacific Region at the National Regional Dance America Conference. His recent choreography entitled “Tango en Pointe” was chosen for the Presidential Scholars Gala at the Kennedy Center. He was part of the National Choreographers Initiative who performed at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics Closing Ceremonies in Japan and was featured in PBS: Dance in America Special.
Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance
Being the founder and artistic director of Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance, he established this school as a revolutionary dance school that combines training methods derived from concert and artistic world, the competitive and commercial dance genres to produce a well rounded complete dancer. The school is committed to developing future dancers in the pre professional training program and prepares its students for a rewarding career in dancing. A Nuevo school dancer can combine the technical finesse of ballet with the physicality of a contemporary dancer and create an artistic expression of their own passions and feelings.
Aside from his stellar dance choreography, his success can be attributed to hard work, respect for his craft and discipline. He never once gave in to quitting, constantly working on to develop his cutting edge choreography and rigorously brainstorming new dance routines. When not dancing he stays home or goes shopping to refresh his mind and relax.
With the continuing and unwavering support from colleagues, students, parents, family and friends, Francisco Gella and the students of Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance are more determined to do what is expected of them, to touch their audience heart to the core, almost spellbinding and charismatic.
Francisco Gella’s message to everyone is, “Be true to yourself. Keep the passion and love for dancing burning. Work hard and go to classes. You cannot not dance. Love the art of dancing and you will make it.” He has definitely made a difference through dancing. He has absolutely remained focus, gave his full energy and followed through the best of his ability.
