A Quick Glance at Woodside, New York

The Pilipino community on Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside, New York is very well known to the locals in the New York City area.  It is one of the few places where most Pilipinos come to eat, do some karaoke, and of course get their primary resources for their homemade dishes.  The 68th - 69th Streets are the home of very well known restaurants such as Ihawan with their delicious Chicken Barbeque while down on the other corner is the Krystal’s Café.  Between these establishments is Johnny Cargo that is used to ship our Balikbayan boxes back home to the Philippines. Right across is Perlas ng Silanga which hosts many famous artist performances such as Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano, and Sharon Cuneta.

The most anticipated restaurant that has just recently opened in Woodside, is the famous fast food chain in the Philippines, Jollibee. They offer the special combos such as 2-piece Chicken Joy with rice and gravy, Spaghetti and a drumstick, and Pancit Palabok.

Though Woodside is where most people can find Pilipino groceries and good eats, there are also many “sari-sari” stores, bakeries, and restaurants located all over in the New York City area that should not be overlooked:

Cindee’s Cakes and Catering – on Jamaica Avenue, Queens.

Mina’s Kitchenette – on Springfield Blvd, Queens.

Guiradelco – on Post Ave, Westbury, Long Island

Stop by if you can!

omg i always go to woodside to get some ingredients for when i *try* to cook. it makes me a little homesick whenever i go there. always so refreshing to interact with all the filipinos that are there and fun to bring my friends too.
