As PNOY Apparel's nationwide Shirt The Kids tour rolls through cities such as San Diego, Philadelphia, and New York City, one of the more interesting stops will be on May 11th, in Fresno, CA. For those that may not be familiar with the relationship between PNOY Apparel and Fresno they may ask, "Why Fresno?"

Back in July 2008, myself along with a few others held a charity event for the Shirt The Kids Fundraiser, and from that we were able to raise $1,000 for PNOY Apparel. A couple of months later, the PNOY Apparel crew made the trip up to Fresno and we were able to raise another $500. All in all, we were able to raise a total of $2,000 for Shirt The Kids by the year's end.

With the success of P.O.W.E.R. in October 2009, it showed me that although the Pilipino-American community, especially the young community, may not be as big compared to San Diego/LA or San Francisco, the level of passion that they are willing to put in for a cause is just as high. This was validated as Fresno State's Magkaisa Filipino Club was honored with the Outstanding Service Award for P.O.W.E.R. from the college.

Fast forward to the first part of 2010, and I get an email from PNOY Apparel's Zar, asking if Fresno would be interested in doing something for the newest Shirt The Kids tour. I jumped at the opportunity because not only would we be able to help out the cause once again, but it would also serve as the platform to show how passionate and energetic the Pilipino-American community is - not only in Fresno, but of the Central Valley as a whole. Ultimately, my two goals for the event are: to provide the performers that are coming through an environment where they feel right at home, and to bring a heightened sense of awareness and pride in Pilipino-American culture.
