Walking up to Webster Hall in New York City last Friday night, you could feel the excitement from outside. The air was stifling, you could cut through the humidity with a knife, and yet folks came out for Pnoy Apparel’s Shirt the Kids (StK) charity concert. It kicked off New York style, late at night, in a studio fit for the event’s performers who came from all over the country to give back to the community.

Erick Esteban emceed, starting off the night explaining what StK was all about, and introducing New York’s own, Deep Foundation. DF took the stage and hyped up the crowd – hands were in the air and heads were bobbing. They were joined onstage by a surprise guest – Melissa Polinar, fresh off of the previous StK concert in New Jersey the night before. Complete with her guitar, she rocked the stage singing a duet, a 'Nothin' on You' cover of B.O.B. and Bruno Mars. She capped off their set with her own song 'Meant to Be'. Next up from The Bay was Kiwi. He came out, tattoos peeking from his white shirt, to spit words and tell the crowd just how it is!

Then Seattle’s Prometheus Brown took the mic for his set. It was well into the wee hours of Saturday morning but the crowd was still in it. He had made a bet with the next performer, LA’s Bambu. He bet the Celtics would win game 1 of the NBA Finals. And well, Bambu of course put his faith in the Lakers. The stakes? Well, Prometheus Brown’s shirt came off for his last song! If you looked hard enough you could see Bambu and Zar (Pnoy Apparel’s founder) in the background cracking up backstage. Then it was Bambu’s turn. He came out and rocked the stage, spitting out his controversial lyrics, working the crowd, and ending with his new single 'The Queen is Dead'.

Afterwards everyone partied until 4AM with the crowd doing line dances, waving their arms, and working the soul train.
