The TriState area packed the Nicholas Music Center at Rutgers University in New Jersey for PnoyApparel's Shirt the Kids benefit concert on June 4, 2010.
More than 600 folks attended this showcase of acoustic talent complete with their posters and assortment of fan paraphernalia in the hopes of catching the attention of their favorite artists. Most importantly, however, they were all there to celebrate and contribute to the Shirt the Kids cause of clothing and providing the necessary materials to support the many impoverished children in the Philippines.
The New Jersey crowd was treated to each individual artist's vocal stylings through covers, original songs, and some very special surprises. Vince Lacsamana made quite the impression as he opened the night's festivities, with his very own guns blazing. Noel Kunz brought the house down with his unique and masterful skills on the yoyo. The ladies, Jenny Suk, Krystle Cruz, Melissa Polinar, and Alfa Garcia drew applause after applause as they consistently engaged the crowd. Additionally, the East Coast's very own Ryan Bandong and crew represented for their region.
The show boasted a few collaborations from the performers, much to the delight of the audience. Some notable partnerships included Melissa Polinar and Jesse Barrera's "Stay with Me" and Victor Kim and AJ Rafael's rendition of "Hallelujah". The auditorium experienced a collective swoon or two as soon as JR Aquino took the stage and soulfully belted out his song selections. One deserving lady was lucky enough to be serenaded by Mr. Aquino himself (she may have stolen a kiss on the hand, we couldn't tell). AJ Rafael and his band matched the night's hype and drew everyone to their feet, as well as drawing this successful night of charity, music, and dance to a close.
Many thanks and congratulations to all those involved. A very captivated and excited audience overwhelmed not only us but everyone who took the stage. Simply put, high energy and high expectations were met for STK New Jersey - and from our standpoint, without a doubt, we think Sammy would be proud.
