I’m sure many of you are familiar with the Dancing Inmates’ viral video of over 1,500 prisoners of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. It has now been about 3 years since that first of many videos hit the internet and became a worldwide sensation. One of the more recent performances that they had was prepared in about 10 hours after hearing of Jackon's death.

Their performances have been noticed by many, both average and some more notable viewers alike. One such notable person, who most recently has taken a special interest in the Dancing Inmates, is Mr. Travis Payne. Payne is the King of Pop's long-time choreographer, and is actually the lead choreographer of "THIS IS IT". On January 18th, he paid a visit to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia in order to communicate his interest in organizing and choreographing a large event in which he wants to involve the inmates.

Warden Byron Garcia, the individual who uploads the videos of the performaces online, originally introduced the idea of dance as a way to keep the inmates busy during their spare time and also to help promote discipline. Garcia shared his excitement about this opportunity, expressing that the efforts of the inmates and all of the CPDRC staff have been rewarded. Their success is evident in other ways as well; among other achievements, the inmates are featured in “The Official Michael Jackson Opus”. Until the big event, the inmates will continue performing for tourists and other visitors of the CPDRC.
