Mother's Day is a celebration every second Sunday of May that honors mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. Since time immemorial, mothers have been soothing their children with lullabies, and by the same token, there have been many songs that were written and performed for mothers.

It was written by the Spice Girls, Matt Rowe and Richard Stannard, and produced by Rowe and Stannard for the group's debut album Spice, released in November 1996. "Mama" is a pop ballad that features instrumentation from keyboards, a rhythm guitar, a cello, and a violin, and its lyrics deals with the difficulties in relationships between mothers and teenagers that appears during adolescence.

"Dear Mama" is a hip hop song by hip hop artist 2Pac. The track was produced by Tony Pizarro for 2Pac's third solo album, Me Against the World, which was released in 1995. The song was written by 2Pac as an ode to his own mother, Afeni Shakur.

"A Song for Mama" is the title of a number-one R&B single by the R&B group Boyz II Men. The tune, which was written and produced by Babyface, served as the theme song to the 1997 motion picture Soul Food, and spent two weeks at number one on the US R&B chart. To date, it is their last top 10 pop hit, peaking at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also appears on the groups album Evolution.
