The rise in user-created content has ushered in a wave of new media that has the ability to promote diversity in both its audience and creators. One such example is the Pilipino-American True Knowledge Radio.

Racking up thousands in downloads and subscribers, True Knowledge Radio has acquired a fan base drawn to the podcast’s energetic mix of mainstream hip-hop beats, lesser-known community-oriented artists and critical commentary of issues affecting the Pilipino-American community.

Recently, the show has featured members of Youth Making a Change (Y-MAC) and Geologic from Blue Scholars.

The show is hosted by iLaw and Johnny Esquire who seek to shed some “light” on its listeners, especially on subjects related to the community’s youth. Hence, the play on ilaw, the Tagalog word for “light.” Host iLaw is also an artist himself, a member of an eclectic and conscious group of emcees, deejays, and musicians who call themselves The Committee. Needless to say, these cats know what their talking about.

To give you a sense of what True Knowledge is like, it’s kind of similar to conversing with a couple of intellectual homies about life while your own balanced mix of hits and random underground beats plays in the background. Except sometimes a cool musical guest drops in. Or maybe a sorority that focuses on advocating for Pilipinos puts in their two cents. And maybe you analyze the latest incident of racism you've experienced.

But don’t just read about it, go on trueknowledge.podmatic.com and check it out. True Knowledge airs Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:30PM on Youth Radio’s All-Day Play.
