T.V. Carpio replaces Natalie Mendoza in Broadway's Spider-Man

In recent news, you may have heard the series of unfortunate events that have plagued the cast and crew of the upcoming Broadway musical, "Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark". In addition to Christopher Tierney's alarming fall during a preview of the production, Pilipino actress Natalie Mendoza (pictured on the left), known for her fierce role as Juno in the horror film,"The Descent", also sustained a concussion from backstage equipment hitting her on the head, and soon thereafter decided she wouldn't continue with the production.

With the lead villainess role, Arachne, open, producers felt that Teresa Victoria Carpio (pictured on the right), also of Pilipino descent and more commonly referred to as T.V. Carpio, was the best choice to fulfill the role. You may remember her as Prudence, in the film, "Across the Universe", where she performed an amazing rendition of the Beatles hit, "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Originally cast as part of the Greek Chorus, producers felt that T.V. had astounded audiences when she covered the role of Arachne in a few preview performances that there was no one else suited for the job.

T.V. is the daughter of Hong Kong based Pilipino singer Teresa Carpio and Peter Mui, co-founder of his own business in Hong Kong. Aside from her role in "Across the Universe", she is credited with parts in the Broadway musical “Rent” and the independent film “She Hates Me.”

With the costliest and most dangerous Broadway production to date slated for opening night on March 15, let's hope that T.V. Carpio can "break-a-leg", just not in the literal sense.
