Salt Lake City, heat up your rice cookers. The 2010 United States Census reported a 108% growth of the Pilipino population in Utah from 2000.  Undoubtedly it's the proximity of...ice-capped mountains? Instant shave ice for halo halo?

Other Census figures show California at a Pilipino population of 1.2 million, and that 3.6% of the population of Nevada is Pilipino.

The 2010 Census was the first census that allowed for respondents to choose "Filipino" as an ethnicity. This allowed for fine-grained analysis for tracking trends in the population across the country.

Here's some interesting findings from independent research groups:

  1. City with the most Pilipinos:Los Angeles, California (includes the 114 neighborhoods which comprise LA)

  2. Fastest growth city:Las Vegas, Nevada (although not completely verified)

  3. Pilipinosand part-Pilipinos comprise approx. 23% of the population of Hawaii

  4. Queens in New York City is the borough with the most Pilipinos.

  5. The entire Pilipino population in the US increased by 38% since 2000.

Remember, the next Census is in 10 years (not 5, or randomly as many Pilipinos thought in an IMS/WBA focus group).  Who knows what's going to happen? Let us know if you've found any other interesting Census 2010 factoids.
