The White House announced (via Twitter, of course) that President Barack Obama will be hosting his first Town Hall on Twitter on Wednesday, July 6th. A new Twitter account has been created just for this event, @townhall. People are invited to ask President Obama questions by tweeting this account, also encouraging users to use the hashtag #AskObama.
The Twitter Town Hall is the latest entry in Obama’s White House 2.0 initiative, which aims to make the White House more accessible via web services like Facebook and YouTube.
I work in public relations, so this is pretty intriguing news to me. I use social media on a daily basis to publicize my clients, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of publicity this generates for Obama--especially with the 2012 Elections coming up.
The Pilipina/o American community faces an array of challenges and issues (e.g. immigration reform, domestic violence, cardiovascular disease). It'd be interesting to see President Obama address some of these issues. Personally, I'd like to ask him about the DREAM Act and other measures for immigration reform. Any PilAm issues you would want to bring up?
