The ability to read awoke in me some long dormant craving to be mentally alive. ~ Malcolm X
I was born in Manila and immigrated to the U.S. when I was 5. I grew up mostly in San Diego, went to UC Santa Cruz with a major in anthropology and minor in art history. I started a Master’s in Asian Studies at San Diego State University but sadly did not finish. I did, however, finish my Master’s in Library and Information Science. For my Asian Studies coursework my emphasis was on Philippine history, in particular how that history shaped a sense of national identity. I am currently the manager of a large urban library. I love reading books and wish I had more time for it. I have tried to keep up with the latest Pil-Am authors and their works. I feel it is very important to support our growing talent of Pil-Am writers and I hope my book reviews will inspire others to seek them out.
