CNN, a nationally syndicated news network, has named Filipina-American Robin Lim as CNN's 2011 “Hero of the Year”. The award is given to the person, despite lack of celebrity status or notoriety, who provides all that he or she can to help others in need. Lim's actions involved becoming a professional midwife in order to provide free prenatal and birthing services to low income families in Indonesiaafter experiencing the death of her younger sister, who died from pregnancy complications.

Lim's clinic is known as “Yayasan Bumi Sehat”, otherwise translated to English as “Healthy Mother Earth”. Lim was one of 10 finalists nominated by CNN, and all 10 nominees received $50,000 towards their cause. As the winner, Robin receives an extra $250,000 and the title as “Hero of the Year”.

First it was Efren Peñaflorida in 2009, and now it's Robin Lim for 2011.

Congratulations for the amazing achievement!
