It's no surprise that Asians, especially Filipinos, love love love rice. For people like my dad, a meal isn't a meal unless it has rice. However, in the Philippines, there is apparently a kind of movement in order to get Pinoys to start eating other rice alternatives for national food security and rice self-sufficiency within the next three years.
These nutritional rice alternatives include camote, cassava, banana, white corn, and bananas.

When I was away for college in my Freshman year, I had some rice-withdrawal. Yellow rice didn't cut it for me. Only had my fix when my roommate and I ordered Chinese food. AND she was nice enough to make me white rice on my surprise birthday party!
I understand kamote and white corn... but bananas to substitute for rice??
Honestly, while I was at home I had rice with every meal, but once I moved out on my own I rarely do (it also helps that I'm horrible at cooking).
I find it hilarious when I go home and my dad serves himself a giant plate of rice...and I go with one scoop. Sure, I used to be able to do a full plate, but I'm not so young anymore! That's a lot of carbs!
