Music Speaks” has an important mission, aiming to spread awareness about Autism, and encourage action that would improve the conditions of the lives and families that it affects.
Music Speaks: SING-OFF! As some of you may know, Music Speaks is a project I started to help raise autism awareness through the power of music and bringing people together. Music Speaks 2009 was a concert series that brought in over $8,000 to the Autism Speaks organization for the Walk for Autism in November that same year. This year TEAM MUSIC SPEAKS is hoping to exceed that mark.
My dad, who died in 1999, directed choirs his whole life after high school. One of those choirs was Sanlahi, and they won many choir competitions and awards. I formed a choir just like his, MoVal Concert Chorale, with 15 of my friends in 2006 and created a family. Until today, MVCC is still together (over 25 members) and singing loud and proud. I direct this choir to bring and keep music into my friends’ lives. It’s taking ‘jamming’ to a different level.
This year, I want to bring something different to the stage. While having MVCC on that stage won’t be too different from benefit concerts I’ve put together in the past, having you on that stage will be. I am inviting singing groups & choirs to Music Speaks this year in a competition for charity. The proceeds of the concert as a whole will go to benefit Autism Speaks, while the grand prize is $1000 with half of it going to a charity of the winning group’s choice.
MVCC, UbeTunes, & myself will be hosting this awesome event/choir competition. This wonderful night of music will include performances by my band, MVCC, & special guest judges. I can’t wait to share with you who they are, and most of all I can’t wait to hear what you can bring to the stage.
The date of the event is November 6th, 2010 and will be held at the Heritage Forum in Anaheim, CA. We have started selling ALL-ACCESS tickets immediately, with only 25 available. Perks include:
** FULL behind-the-scenes access to rehearsals (day before show)
** Dinner with AJ and Music Speaks team after rehearsals
** FULL backstage access during show
** Front-row seating at show

Requirements
4-16 people in each “choir”
First Round – YouTube Submission
Name your video “Music Speaks: SING-OFF Audition – [Title of group & song]”
Provide contact email in video description
Deadline is September 20th, 2010
Videos with the most “thumbs up/likes” will move on
Second Round – Music Speaks: SING-OFF Stage
The top 8 groups will compete the night of November 6th, 2010 in Anaheim, CA
Prepare one song under 5 minutes [piano or guitar live accompaniment or track]
3 groups chosen by the judges will move on
Third Round – Performance Finale
Prepare one A CAPPELLA song under 5 minutes
Audience vote determines the winner
Grand prize $1000 with half going to a charity of your choice, an opportunity to open for Music Speaks: Bay Area in 2011, and more to be announced!!! =)
