“Sulong Gabriela: Celebrating the Advances of the Filipino Women's Struggle!”

Pilipino artists coast to coast will share the stage in a rare concert celebrating BAYAN-USA’s 3rd Congress and the formation of GABRIELA-USA at the UCLA Labor Center. The title of the show “Sulong Gabriela: Celebrating the Advances of the Filipino Women's Struggle!” features artists such as El Dia of 1st Quarter Storm (Seattle), Geologic of Blue Scholars (Seattle), Kiwi of Native Guns (Bay Area), Hanalei Ramos (New York), Flattbush (Los Angeles), Power Struggle (Minneapolis) and more.

GABRIELA-USA’s founding assembly in Los Angeles marks a historic moment for Pilipina women in the United States as the first overseas chapter of GABRIELA-Philippines. The alliance is formed by Pinay sa Seattle, babae of San Francisco and Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment (FIRE) New York. GABRIELA-Philippines is at the forefront of the struggle for Philippine women against domestic violence, overseas exploitation, human trafficking, mail order brides and prostitution.

BAYAN-USA will also be holding its third Congress with organizations from across the United States.  It is a historic event for progressive Pilipinos nationwide to better coordinate campaigns addressing rising unemployment, home foreclosures, and xenophobic immigration policies in the United States. Along with GABRIELA-USA, one of the most pressing issues is the campaign to confront the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), human rights abuses, and increased militarization in the Philippines.

With Barack Obama calling for US troop withdrawal from Iraq, BAYAN-USA and GABRIELA-USA are making the same calls for US troops to withdraw from the Philippines and revoke the unconstitutional VFA. An online petition was created and can be found here.
