In the PI, the celebration of this year’s National Women’s Month (March) and International Women’s Day (March 8th) are centered on the theme “Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan!” (Woman, you’re the Success of the Country!)

Winter Olympics 2010Here are some quick BBM's about a few Pilipino and Pilipino-American athletes being noted in the mainstream media the past week.

Born Edgardo Jose Martin Santiago Valenciano to a Puerto Rican mother and a Pilipino father, singer/songwriter/musician/actor Gary Valenciano or Gary V has consistently kept himself in the public’s eye since 1983 when he first burst into the Philippine music scene. He started out as a lean and lanky 18-year old who had all of Michael Jackson’s moves and Al Jarreau’s vocal pyrotechnics down pat, and now, his career is the yardstick by which other Pilipino artists measure theirs. The magnitude of his achievements and accolades defies belief, considering that Gary has been battling juvenile diabetes for 30 years running. Living each day’s moments according to the rise and fall of his blood sugar level has not prevented Gary V from earning the nickname of Mr. Pure Energy from his legions of (mostly Pilipino) fans worldwide.
