Hello! I’m not one for writing too much, but I’d like to share this little Time Lapse project that I made about Los Angeles, CA. As I’m sure you already know, the West Coast in general, and Southern California in particular, is home to the majority of the Pilipino-American population here in the U.S. As a matter of fact, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, nearly half a million (or almost one out of every four Pilipinos) live in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas.

Typhoon Ondoy Pepeng ReliefFresno, CA – The “P.O.W.E.R.” (Pilipino Organizations Working for Emergency Relief) benefit event, hosted by “Magkaisa”, the Pilipino-American student group at Fresno State, along with the Pilipino-American student group of Buchanan High School, will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 1-5pm at the Pilipino-American Community Center.

“Magkaisa” and the Pilipino-American student group of Buchanan High School have taken the lead in creating and hosting “P.O.W.E.R.” to show a united call to action in contributing to the relief efforts in the Philippines.

Pride Rice Dance CrewWanna get in on a great dance crew? Recently featured on GMA 7 Philippines, GMA Pinoy TV and ABS-CBN TFC, Pride Rice Dance Crew is hosting auditions in San Diego this Friday, July 24th. Come out and have some fun with this awesome bunch of folks.

Pride Rice Dance Crew was founded March 2009 by siblings Michelle, Jordan, and Devin Banares. With the assistance of their artistic director, Erik Molina, they were able to mold their dance group into an eclectic hip-hop team. Pride Rice is a team that strives on the positivity, growth, and commitment of its dancers.

As a matter of fact, according to figures from the 2000 Census, 18.8% of the total city population of almost 90,000 residents identified themselves as either Pilipino or Pilipino-American. These figures are definitely supported by the large number of Pilipino stores and restaurants in the area; including Seafood City, Tambuli, Jollibee, Chow King, Red Ribbon, Casa Filipina Bakery, DJ Bibinkahan, Manila Sunrise, Manila’s Lechon Manok, and Tita Celia’s, among others.

On June 27, 2009, thousands of Pilipino and Pilipino American individuals of different age ranges braved long lines to be the first to claim their seats at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California for the Star Magic World Tour.  Music blared on the intercom as a variety of venders sold Pilipino paraphernalia and passed out flyers to the crowd.  Over 40 Pilipino actors and actresses, dancers, singers, and comedians, including Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu, and Jake Cuenca, were to grace the Citizen’s Bank Arena stage.
