Bren Bataclan – An Artist Diffusing Smiles Around the World

Bren Bataclanby Rhoda Dizon

Bren Bataclan’s colorful, warm and free art has been left on the streets and random places of 25 different cities in the U.S., as well as to 30 other countries worldwide. This artistic and philanthropic venture is a continuation of his “Smile Boston Project.” Like lyrics from the song “Middle” by Jimmy Eat World, Bataclan leaves a note with each canvas with the words -- “Everything Will Be Alright,” or some other positive variation. Free art during a recession is rare, and what is even rarer is the optimism and positivity of the note attached to the smiling work of art. Touching stories of people finding Bren Bataclan’s artwork after a bad day of work, or even worse, after a chemotherapy treatment session are shared, brings a smile and uplifts the spirit – and ultimately generates a more hopeful outlook during difficult times such as these.

“I believe my music was meant for a higher cause,” says Victor “oneson” Acosta, of Sleeping Giant Music. “Aside from entertaining people, my heart says to help and support those in need.”

As a man of his word, oneson is using his newest single, This One's for You, as a vehicle for contribution. His record label, Sleeping Giant Music, is teaming up with the grassroots charity “Shirt the Kids” created by PNOY Apparel, to bring “Sammy the Sunshine tees” and monetary aid to impoverished children in the Phillippines.”

The young and upcoming R&B star Honore' (honor-ray) is a singer/songwriter/producer, hailing from Altadena, California. His Creole (African American & French) and Pilipino roots give his "neo-soul" sound a distinct flavor that fuses influences such as Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Brian McKnight, and Musiq. His myspace states that "He describes his music as 'positive music for all ages, without any bounds or limitations.'" BakitWhy had the chance to catch up with this smooth R&B star and he gave us a "sample sample" of his music:
