I will readily admit that I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to the arts.  I'm more of a techie myself, but I can appreciate when technology is used to create art.  This is why I was initially intrigued by the opening of the Chicago Artists' Coalition's new gallery entitled "Cut & Paste", which featured collages that were created by repeatedly cutting and pasting images (both physically and via the computer).  My interest turned into visiting the gallery opening when I read about one of the artists, Jun-Jun Sta.Ana, was raised in the Philippines and is a recent transplant to Chicago.  My visit was justified when I noticed they were serving lumpia at the art gallery, and being able to talk with Jun-Jun completed the night.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Michael Copon - An Exclusive Interview in Chicago

Michael CoponWhenever recess hit in the 5th grade, or while I was at my family friends' playing outside, there was always one show my friends and I would want to emulate: Power Rangers. The Ninja Turtles had run their course, and Dragonball Z had yet to hit our shores. While we had the imagination to pretend we were superhero martial artists, we never considered acting on the show as one. Michael Copon, a Pilipino from Virginia, actually got to live the life as the Blue Time Force Power Ranger, which began his career as a television and film actor. BakitWhy.com had the chance to meet up with Michael during a recent weekend trip he had to Chicago.

Halloween might be the only time you put on makeup and a wig, but for Christine Gambito, AKA Happy Slip, makeup and a wig are a part of her job--and what a job it is.  Two years since she first started posting her hysterical impersonations of her parents and relatives on YouTube, Gambito has been interviewed or mentioned on various media outlets like The New York Times, ABS-CBN, Businessweek.com, and The Asia Sentinel.com.  Gambito has 16, 317 fans on Facebook, and her YouTube channel has over 200,000 subscribers.  Her legendary video, “Mixed Nuts”, which won second place in the 2006 YouTube Awards for best comedy, has over four million views on YouTube. She has over 47 million total video views on YouTube alone.  Not bad for something that started out “only” as a hobby.
