BBM’s are reprogrammed and ready to go! To all the regular readers out there that noticed I was gone, JM's BBM's are back after about a monthlong layoff. To make a long story short, I've been dividing my time between work during the week and Las Vegas on the weekends for the World Series of Poker, which I'll document at a later post. Needless to say, time has been in short supply, but as the Series closes I'm finding the time to knock out these weekly posts once again. Let's dive right in to see what's going on in the world of Pil-Ams in sports.

Congressman Pacman: photo from PhilBoxing.com
This week's theme in sports is celebrating the champion. In the Philippines, international sports icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao ran for a seat in the Philippine congress. Rising star UFC fighter Mark "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" Munoz will be honored as one of the newest members of the California State Wrestling Hall of Fame. The Conference finals for the NBA have been set for both the East and West and within a couple weeks we will have 2 teams square off to win the coveted Larry O Brien trophy. Let's get a little more in depth into each of these main stories as we are almost halfway through the year 2010.

The first week of March is upon us and March Madness isn't only taking place on the college basketball courts. The Pilipino boxing Pound for Pound King is set to fight in less than 10 days in the glitz and glamour that only Jerry Jones' new stadium can bring to you. Here are some of the more noteworthy items that have developed involving the two main combatants, Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey, in the headline bout cleverly titled "The Event", set to take place March 13 in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium

Fans worldwide have been begging for a mega fight between the top two Pound-for-pound boxers - Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Floyd “Money” Mayweather, for a while now; and a person with knowledge of the discussions has said that in the end, there was enough up-front money for both camps to agree to an equal split of the purse.
Pacman & Money will get $25 million each from the initial $50 million pot that has been pooled together to get both fighters to agree to what has been billed as potentially the richest fight in boxing history.
This is going to be an exciting fight,” Pacquiao said on Philippine national TV Friday, December 4th. “I want to fight Floyd Mayweather very badly. It’s the fight that everyone wants to see.”
