I remember where I was when I heard that George Lucas was releasing a prequel to "Star Wars": in 1999, I was a junior in high school and I was a HUGE Star Wars nerd. (Still am now, but more on that in a bit.) I went into hyper fangirl mode and saw "Episode 1: The Phantom Menance". I remember back then trying to figure out what the actual plot of the story was, since there were too many stories and plot holes that didn't really connect (I still can't figure it out!) Also, I wanted to see Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and wondering if he could pull off that character with the same élan as Sir Alec Guinness.
Flash forward to 2012 -- I'm watching "The Bark Side" Volkswagen commercial with the cute dogs dressed as Star Wars characters barking the Imperial March. I wondered, "Hmm, is George Lucas really hurting for cash?"
No, it was much, much worse: the re-release of that stinker "The Phantom Menace" IN 3D!
Call me an old fart, but 3D movies give me a serious headache because it messes with my (already) bad eyes. And to combine it with the most annoying and profoundly projectile vomit-inducing prequel, it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Yes, I am aware that these prequels are aimed toward children, but come on! Kids aren't that dumb in this day and age!
Mr. Lucas, I am disappoint. Please-- just cut your losses, stop trying to control EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of your films, and go buy an island in the Caribbean. Me and the rest of the Star Wars fanbase would thank you if you just stopped toying with our beloved Star Wars. Hayden Christensen's horrible acting completely killed the franchise.
